BA honours in Agronomic Engineering (ISA - UTL), MSc in Business Administration (ISCTE-IUL) and PhD in Sociology (ISCTE-IUL). Between 2006 and 2008 he coordinated four research projects, one as researcher at CIES-ISCTE, entitled “Human ignition causes of forest fires” and the other as researcher at Númena (Causes for human ignitions of forest fires,The relationship between fire and pasturing in Montalegre – sociological and biophysical perspectives”, and “The relationship between pasturing and forest fires"). In September 2009, Númena edited his book Forest fires: causes and attitudes, which summarises the first two projects.

His current sociological research regards religion and youth, central areas of his doctoral thesis Modernity, religiosity and university, held in 2012. His lines of research focus on religiosity, spirituality, and socialisation. Of his articles stand out “Clusters of religiosity of Portuguese undergraduate students” (2014), “Portuguese youth religiosity in the last two decades” (2013) and “Beliefs, practices and attitudes of Portuguese undergraduate youth” (2012).
